East Bengal Club’s Football Team was formed in August 1920 and the Football Team played its maiden tournament in the same month of its establishment. The tourney was Hercules Cup, a seven-a-side competition that the club won without any Herculean effort.

East Bengal Club’s Football Team never looked back after that. It did not believe in rising like a meteor, but dazzled like a sun in a blaze of glory, rewriting soccer history in the country over and over again. The football team’s  historic triumph of winning the I.F.A. Shield three years in a row (1949-51) as the first Indian team earned them the unique distinction of being adjudged the best soccer club by the English F.A. annual almanac of 1951-52. This honour paved the way for invitation being accorded to the club’s football team to tour Soviet Union and Romania as the first Indian football team. East Bengal Club’s football team is the only football team in India who was invited by Romania Youth Festival Committee to participate in their football tournament at Bucharest in the year 1953. The club was recommended the best football club of India by the then President of India, Late Dr. Rajendra Prasad.Records and new milestones became a regular ally of the football team of the club.

East Bengal Club in partnership with Dr. Vijay Mallya's United Breweries Group in 1998, gave a new facelift to the Football Team of the club. Within the constitution of the club a Private Limited Company was formed covering the affairs of the football team under the name and style of "United East Bengal Football Team Private Limited".

Through corporatization the football team was named "Kingfisher East Bengal" which achieved many firsts among India's Football Clubs.

On July 26, 2003 - Kingfisher East Bengal wrote a golden chapter in the history of Indian Football by becoming the first team in Indian Football to win a prestigious International tournament abroad by winning the ASEAN CUP at Jakarta, Indonesia. It was a historic moment for Kingfisher East Bengal and the red & golds did India and Indian football proud by its stupendous achievement.

Kingfisher East Bengal won the National Football League (now re-christened as I–League) title in 2000-01 and even became the first football team in India to win back to back National Football League titles in 2003 and 2004.

In 2004 Kingfisher East Bengal was invited to the tournament by Leicester City Football Club of England celebrating  LCFC's 120th Anniversary. During that tournament in England it was a grand honour for the Football Team to be invited to the House of Commons and welcomed by none other than the then – Deputy Prime Minister Mr John Prescott.

In the third quarter of the year 2012, the Kingfisher East Bengal created another history as they became the first Indian team to qualify for the prestigious AFC Cup four years in a row -- 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. Kingfisher East Bengal also reached the semi-final of AFC Cup in 2013.

In 2013, the company was renamed as “Kingfisher East Bengal Football Team Private Limited”.
