Derby ‘double’ for Red & Golds

QEBFC outplayed arch rivals Mohun Bagan and defeated them 2-0 in the return leg of the Derby at VYBK today. This was the first time in the I League Quess East Bengal FC have done the Derby double.

In the earlier NFL they had won both Derbies twice in the same season in 2002-03 and 2003-04. With this win QEBFC remain in the 4th position with 25 points from 13 matches.

QEBFC started strongly and dominated the exchanges. Jaime Santos Colado opened the scoring in the 35th minute when he scored with a brilliant grounder after hoodwinking Bagan defender Gurjinder Kumar and wrong footing custodian Shilton Paul. The pass to Colado had come from Jobby Justin.

Mohun Bagan tried to come back in the initial stages of the second half but QEBFC defence marshalled by Jhonny Acosta and Borja Perez held firm. Red & Gold Brigade got their insurance goal in the 75th minute when Jobby Justin nodded in of a flag kick by Lalrindika Ralte.

Hero of the Match Jobby Justin becomes the 8th player in the NFL/I League history who have had the unique distinction of scoring in both the Derbies in the same season of the League.

Lalramchullova, Jobby Justin (QEBFC) & Omar Elusseiny, Darren Caldeira, Sony Norde (Mohun Bagan) were booked in the match.

QEB colts held by SAI Guwahati

Quess East Bengal U-18 were held to a goalless draw by SAI Guwahati in their first match of the Final Round of Hero Youth League Elite played today morning at Utorda Ground, Goa.

QEB U-18 will play Delhi Dynamos in their next match on 29th February.

QEBFC will clash with Mohun Bagan in the return I League Derby on 27th January, 2019 (Sunday) at VYBK. The match will kick off at 5 pm. QEBFC won the first Derby 3-2 on 16th December, 2018.

In the pre match press meet held on Friday, QEB Head Coach Alejandro told, “Mohun Bagan is a difficult match. We are focusing on the game. All the teams that are fighting for the title are difficult. But we are focusing only on the next match. We have to fight and get full three points to fight for the title.”

Mohun Bagan Coach Khalid Jamil said, “I have come here to help Mohun Bagan and am not thinking of revenge. This is an important match. It is our home match, and we must get a positive result.”

The fans are sure to be in for a footballing treat, in what is rightly termed the Biggest Game in Indian football.

The match between East Bengal and Aryan in the CAB First Division League tournament (3 days) ended in draw as East Bengal earned 7 points from their match.

East Bengal were struggling against Aryan after losing 6 wickets for 189 runs on the first day (23/01/2019).

Resuming the day on 189/6 East Bengal first rode on Arish Alam (75) and B Amit (63) heroics as the duo added 136 runs on the seventh wicket to score 294 and then with some superb bowling performances bundled Aryan Club out for a paltry for 77 runs and enforced follow-on.

Amit put on a spectacular all-round performance by taking 5 wickets leaking only 21 runs along with Geet Puri's 4-27 and put Aryan to bat for the second time who trail by 161 runs at the end of the day's play with a score of 56 for no loss.

On the third day, Aryan batters responded with some gritty batting performances in the second innings as the latter one rode on Gitimoy Basu (69), Surojit Das (92), Aritra Chatterjee (51*) half-centuries to end the day on 520/8 and earned 3 points from the drawn match.
