QEB beat BSS in CFL

Quess East Bengal defeated BSS Sporting in a rain-soaked muddy ground on Sunday. For the red & golds Jaime Santos & Bidyashagar Singh scored while William Opoku reduced the margin converting a spot kick in the injury time.

The game started 42 minutes behind schedule due to rain which made the ground inappropriate for play.

After the game started, the two teams were having trouble playing on the field as the footballers are going down the field unnecessarily due to slushy ground conditions.

BSS goalkeeper Sandeep Kumar Pal saved Santos's free kick in the opening minutes of the match. In the 17th minute Jaime Santos scored receiving a right sided cross from Brandon. Eight minutes later BSS Sporting had a close shave when from Martiís header from Santosís corner saved from the goalline by the BSS defender. Few minutes later Bidyashagar barged in from the right and his shot was the saved by the opponent custodian.

The match went into the lemon break with 1-0 scoreline.

In the 52nd minute Bidyashagar scored to make it 2-0 for QEB. The red & golds continued to attack but the players were finding it difficult due to the ground conditions.

In the injury time BSS got a penalty as shot from BSS footballer touched the hands of both Kamalpreet & Asheer in the box. Ghanaian William Opoku reduced the margin converting from the spot.

QEB ropes in Juan Mera Gonzalez

Quess East Bengal roped in versatile Spanish striker cum attacking midfielder Juan Mera Gonzalez for the upcoming season. With the signing of Juan, the red & golds have completed the quota of six foreign players.

Juan basically play as a second striker and he can play as a CAM and Winger Forward (preferably left) as well. He has played for SD Leioa, Sporting Gijon & Celta Vigo B of Spain and also represented Spanish U-16 national team.

QEB loss in Durand semifinal

Quess East Bengal lost to Gokulam Kerala FC 3-2 in the penalty shoot out in Durand Cup semifinal. The match ended 1-1 even after extra time.

East Bengal drew first blood in the 18th minute with Samad Ali Mallick's 30-yard long ranger sailed into the Gokulam Kerala net.

Cheered by the red-and-gold fans, QEB however failed to seal the match within the regulation time and received a big blow when they were reduced to 10 players in the 90+3rd minute after Mehtab Singh pulled down Kisekka inside the box. Marccus Joseph converted the result spot-kick to make it 1-1 for the Kerala outfit.

Playing with 10 players in the extra-time, East Bengal managed to keep a clean slate with their goalkeeper K Mirshad executing three brilliant saves.

The match went into the tie-breaker as the score remain 1-1 even after extra time.

In the tie breaker QEB lost by 3-2 margin. After East Bengal captain Lalrindika Ralte's first shot hit the post, Ubaid denied Jaime Santos before blocking Tondomba Naorem to secure Gokulam's first qualification to the final. For East Bengal only Marti & Boithang scored.

For Gokulam, Bruno Pelissari, Justin George and Lalromawia found the back of the net from the spot. Meiteiís shot was saved by QEB custodian Mirshad.
