Rajashree Prasad set a meet record on way to claiming the women's U-20 200m gold on the opening day of the 69th West Bengal State Athletics Championship at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Thursday. Rajashree shot into limelight winning the sprint double in the National Youth meet in Hyderabad in April 2017 and then she went on to represent the country in youth championships. She won the event last year too, but this time she improved upon her timing finishing in 24.5 seconds, thereby shattering Jalpaiguri girl Anwesha Roy Pradhan's previous meet record of 24.7s set in 2016.

Rajashree, who is representing East Bengal club in their centenary year, felt she could have done better with the timing. "I held myself back a bit due to the heavy rain," she said later. Sumita Bhowmick of Nadia came second in 25.9s and Diptashree Roy of Jalpaiguri finished third in 26.4s.

Anwesha Roy Pradhan lost her women's 200m crown to East Bengal's Riya Hazra who won in 24.6s. Pradhan came second in 25s. East Bengal athletes did well on the first day claiming gold in boys U-16 200m (Arijit Rana in 23.4s) and men's 200m (Safikul Mondal in 21.8s) among other events. Get FLAT 50% off your food, drinks and more at the top On the final day of the 69th State Athletics Championships on Sunday, the menís 100m title was won by East Bengalís Safikul Mondal, who took 10.5 seconds ó below the 10.3 mark he had set last year. North 24 Parganasí Sahabuddin Molla pipped Subhojit Saha of SOPC to second place in a photo finish after both clocked 10.8 seconds.

Four meet records were set on Day 4 while two meet records were equalled. East Bengalís Rajasree Prasad won the womenís under-20 100m in 11.8 seconds, bettering the 11.9 sec set by Ruma Sarkar of Sail Athletic Academy in 2013. In menís 400m hurdles, Rajkumar Paul of North 24 Parganas emerged winner with a time of 52.8 seconds that erased the previous record of 53.6 set in 1981 by Jiben Roy of East Bengal.
QEB lost to George in CFL

George Telegraph SC defeated Quess East Bengal FC 1-0 in Calcutta Football League-Premier Division A match at East Bengal ground today.

In the injury time of the match Justice Morgan scored the only goal for George Telegraph SC.

Tanmoy Ghosh of George Telegraph SC was adjudged Man of the Match.

QEB ropes in striker Marcos

Quess East Bengal FC roped in Spanish striker Marcos Eusebio Jimenez De La Espada Martin.

The 33 years old 6 ft 1 inch ex Segunda Division B striker has scored 31 goals in his last 3 seasons. He is the fifth foreign player recruited for 2019-20 season.

Quess East Bengal routed Jamshedpur FC by 6-0 margin in their second outing of Durand Cup played today afternoon at East Bengal ground.

The red & golds got their first goal in the 5th minute of play when Jaime Santos scored from a spot kick. The penalty resulted from a foul on Santos by the Jamshedpur FC custodian inside the box.

As the match progressed QEB continued their goal scoring spree and were up by 2-0 when Santos scored again after three minutes. After his goal coach Alejandro replaced Santos with Boithang Haokip.

QEB continued their attacking play and Pintu Mahata tripled the score in the 34th minute. The match went into the lemon break with 3-0 scoreline. In the second half Alejandro made two more changes bringing in Borja in place Marti & Prakash came in for Tondomba.

In the 74th minute Bidyasagar made it 4-0 from a pass of Brandon Vanlalremdika. Within five minutes Bidyasagar scored again to make it 5-0.

Boithang Haokip scored his first goal for QEB to make it 6-0 in the injury time.
